The Department of Materials Engineering is responsible for training highly qualified human resources in the field of metallurgy and materials. Education programs are designed and built according to the credit system with output standards that help students update theory, improve their ability to work independently, strengthen the ability to conduct research and solve problems in the industry or training major. Postgraduate courses are lectured with the aim of supplementing and improving knowledge studied at undergraduate degree, updating specialized knowledge in materials science and engineering, expanding interdisciplinary knowledge in manufacturing technology, processing and using materials.
With an enrollment of about 300 undergraduate students a year, the Department of Materials Engineering is currently implementing 02 credit-based education programs: Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering (taught in English) - one of the first 10 advanced programs based on the original program of the University of Illinois (UIUC, USA) - approved in 2006 in Vietnam.
The education program of the Department of Materials Engineering aims to enhance the adaptability of students to social development, towards self-training during working; helping students acquire practical and attractive basic knowledge of the industry due to its wide application features, diversity, multi-principles, science, engineering and modern technology of materials. The focus of the education program is on basic knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry, mechanics of the combination of atoms that form compound phases and structure, the relationship between structure, properties, manufacturing and use of materials. Innovation in content, updating teaching and assessment methods to promote the initiative and self-study of under- and graduate students, creating an environment for comprehensive human development are always concerned issues.
In addition, the Department of Materials Engineering also trains according to other models in the form of joint training, 2nd degree, granting training certificates, and additional training for agencies and companies in need.

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM
STANDARD PROGRAM
1. Objectives of the Bachelor of Materials Engineering training program:
Graduates of the Bachelor of Materials Engineering program:- Have solid technical and professional knowledge, professional practice skills, and are capable of participating in solving problems related to design and manufacturing in the fields of Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgy, and Materials Technology.
- Have professional skills and personal skills, can study at a high level, can self-study to adapt to the continuous development of science and technology, and have the ability to learn for life.
- Have sufficient foreign language communication and teamwork skills to work in an interdisciplinary, multicultural, multinational environment.
2. Specific objectives of the materials engineering engineer training program are to equip graduates:
- Solid technical knowledge of Materials Engineering: basic knowledge of mathematics, physics, electronics, algorithms, databases, artificial intelligence; analysis and design of information systems; Knowledge of infrastructure, mechanisms for connection, control, operation, and information security of computer systems and data communication networks. Sufficient capacity to detect and solve problems related to the construction and deployment of hardware and software of computing systems.
- Have the skills to apply knowledge, reasoning skills, and systems thinking to solve in-depth problems of the industry and in practice. Have the right attitude and professional ethics.
- Communication skills, teamwork, effective use of English, and a professional working attitude suitable for a multidisciplinary and international collaborative environment.
- Ability to apply professional knowledge, form ideas, analyze, and come up with solutions to effectively solve problems suitable to actual socio-economic conditions.

MATERIALS SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING – ADVANCED PROGRAM
1. Educational Objectives
The course provides to student with an understanding of the structure of materials and the relationship between “fabrication – structure – properties” of materials. Students will gain knowledge of modern engineering, including heat transfer, mass transfer, thermodynamics, kinetics, and aspects of mechanics, physics, and solid-state chemistry, etc. The supplementary knowledge regarding the economic, social, and environmental aspects of material fabrication also provided. Upon graduation, students will be capable of operating equipment, developing technologies, and conducting research in rapidly growing industries such as electronics, aerospace, medicine, and other material manufacturing and production sectors.
