EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

The program provides to student with an understanding of the structure of materials and the relationship between “fabrication – structure – properties” of materials. Students will gain knowledge of modern engineering, including heat transfer, mass transfer, thermodynamics, kinetics, and aspects of mechanics, physics, and solid-state chemistry, etc. The supplementary knowledge regarding the economic, social, and environmental aspects of material fabrication also provided. Upon graduation, students will be capable of operating equipment, developing technologies, and conducting research in rapidly growing industries such as electronics, aerospace, medicine, and other material manufacturing and production sectors.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The “Advanced Program in Materials Science and Engineering – Smart and Nano Materials” program is designed according to the CDIO standards and based on the curriculum from the University of Illinois (USA) – one of the world’s leading institutions in materials science. This program is taught in English and is one of the first 10 advanced programs approved for training in Vietnam since 2006. Over the years, the program has successfully trained almost 20 cohorts of students.

This program provides students with a deep understanding of how materials are structured and the relationship between processing, structure and properties. Students will study about modern science and technology, including heat transfer, mass transfer and chemical kinetics, thermodynamics, kinetics, and some aspects of mechanics, physics, solid chemistry, etc... The program emphasizes the real-world impact of materials production and students acquire deep insights into economic, social, and environmental aspects of material fabrication. Graduate students are capable of operating, developing and researching in rapidly growing industries such as electronics, aerospace, biocompatible, and other basis materials manufacturing sectors.

Students in this program gain hands-on experience with advanced technology and equipment, and modern laboratory systems from material synthesis to processing. Recently, two programs within the Department of Materials Engineering received an upgraded laboratory with nearly USD 3 million in funding through the World Bank’s SAHEP project, further enhancing research and studying facilities.

The program is internationally accredited by ASIIN (Accreditation Agency for Study Programs in Engineering, Informatics, Natural Sciences and Mathematics), a prestigious accreditation organization of the European Higher Education Quality Assurance Association.
