History of Establishment and Development
October 1956: the training of specialists in Textile and Dyeing was officially initiated, concurrent with the establishment of Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
1958: Established the Department of Textiles within the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering - Metallurgy.
1966: The Department of Textiles was renamed the Department of Textile Mechanics within the newly established Faculty of Machine Manufacturing.
1967: The Faculty of Textiles was formed from the Department of Textile Mechanics and the Department of Dyeing Chemistry, both under the School of Light Industry.
1971: The Department of Textile Mechanics was established, comprising the following departments: Department of Yarn, Department of Weaving, Department of Textile Materials, Department of Principles - Machine Details, Department of Machine Manufacturing, Department of Food Processing Machinery, Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Heat - Ventilation.
1977: Transferred training programs to Hanoi University of Science and Technology. Established the Faculty of Textile Technology, including the following departments: Department of Yarn Technology, Department of Textile Technology, Department of Textile Materials, Department of Textile Machinery and Equipment. The Department of Dyeing Chemistry operated under the Faculty of Chemistry.
1982: The Department of Dyeing Chemistry, originally transferred from the Faculty of Chemistry, was later merged with other units to establish the Department of Textiles under the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering – Energy – Textiles.
1987: The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering - Energy - Textiles was dissolved, and the Faculty of Textiles was re-established, comprising the following departments: Department of Yarn, Department of Weaving, Department of Textile Materials, Department of Textile Chemistry.
1988: Established the Department of Clothing Technology and trained garment engineers.
1996: The Faculty of Textiles was transformed into a department directly under the university.
1998: Established the Faculty of Textile Technology and Fashion Technology, comprising the following departments:
- Department of Textile Technology.
- Department of Textile Materials and Chemical Processing.
- Department of Clothing and Fashion Technology.
12/10/2011: Established the School of Textile – Leather and Fashion, comprising the following units:
- Department of Textile Technology.
- Department of Textile Materials and Chemical Processing.
- Department of Clothing and Fashion Technology.
- Textile, Leather and Footwear Materials Testing Center.
7/2023: Established the Department of Textiles - Footwear and Fashion under the School of Materials Science and Engineering.
Timeline & Key Milestones
- 1956: Initiated engineer training in Textiles with specializations in Yarn Technology, Knitting Technology, Weaving Technology, Textile Machinery, and Dyeing Technology.
- 1988: Expanded training to include engineers in Clothing Technology.
- 1990: Began offering master’s and doctoral programs in Textile and Clothing.
- 2014: Introduced engineer training in Leather and Footwear Technology.
