Scientific background


INTRODUCTION

Dr. Nguyen Chau Giang is currently a lecturer majoring in polymer and composite materials, at the Department of Applied Chemical Materials, Hanoi University of Science and Technology. Dr. Nguyen Chau Giang graduated from Hanoi University of Science and Technology with a major in Polymer Technology in 1997, then received a Master's degree in Materials Science in 2000 and completed his PhD thesis in the field of Macromolecular and Composite Materials at Hanoi University of Science and Technology in 2012. Current research fields of Dr. Nguyen Chau Giang is mainly involved in the production of environmentally friendly polymer materials and the application of polymers of natural origin.

MAJOR RESEARCH FIELDS AND INTERESTS

  • Conducting research on biodegradable polymer blends based on starch for applications in packaging, functional coatings, and environmentally friendly disposable items.
  • Research on the production of nanocellulose from bio-based materials or agricultural by-products and their applications as aerogel and hydrogel materials.
    • Research on the usage of renewable raw materials (bamboo, coconut jelly, banana fiber, coffee grounds, sugarcane bagasse, bean bagasse, etc.) in manufacturing environmentally friendly polymer composite materials
    • Polymer blend and nanocomposite materials


PROJECTS

  • Research on technology for manufacturing completely biodegradable plastic films based on Vietnamese cassava starch blend (TNMT.2020.553.05). Accepted project as principal researcher.
  • Research on production of aerogels from nata de coco for application in adsorbing Pb2+ ions in wastewater (T2016-DT-05 -PTNTD), Accepted project as project leader.
  • Improvement on the characteristics of thermoplastic starch employed in manufacturing biodegradable polymer materials (T2015-DT-04 -PTNTD), Accepted project as project leader.
  • Extraction of cellulose microfibers from bamboo plants for use in the production of ecologically friendly polymer composites (B2010-01-315), Accepted project as project leader.
